NABDP
Started 12 Development Projects in Kandahar Province

The Ministry of
Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD), through the
National Area-Based Development Programme (NABDP), has
started 12 development projects in various districts of
Kandahar Province.
The projects
include construction of six water siphons, digging of four
drinking water wells, construction of a 75-meter Intake,
construction of five public washrooms, construction of a
560-meter boundry wall, digging of six hand pump wells and
purchasing of
530 furniture for schools
in various villages of Daman, Dand, Nish and Provincial
Capital of Kandahar Province with the total cost of
$255,074.00
USD.
Approximately 258
rural families benefited from above mentioned projects.
These activities have created 7,157 working days for more
than a thousand local people, contributing to the local
economy and providing short term employment.
NABDP has modified 526
development projects in Kandahar province, from which 456
development projects have been completed and 70 other
development projects are in progress. As a result of these
projects, thousands of rural communities are able to take
advantage of infrastructure activities according to their
priorities in various villages across Kandahar province.
Furthermore,
through empowering the communities, people have been able to
articulate and address their community
priorities.
With the support of the
international community, MRRD is working to rebuild rural
Afghanistan through its national programmes which includes
the National Solidarity Programme (NSP), National Area-Based
Development Programme (NABDP), Water Supply & and Sanitation
Programme (WATSAN), National Rural Access Programme (NRAP),
and Afghanistan Rural Enterprise Development Programme (AREDP).
National Area-Based Development
Programme (NABDP) commenced as a joint initiative of the
Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) and
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 2002, with
the goal of contributing to a sustainable reduction of
poverty and an improvement of livelihoods in rural
Afghanistan. The new phase of the Program has three main
thrusts namely:
1. Local Governance and DDAs Institutionalization
2. Sustainable Livelihoods through Rural Infrastructure
Services
3. Stabilization through enhanced economic livelihoods
